PAPUA NEW GUINEA
EXPEDITION
AN UNMOTORISED CROSSING
Report
The principle objective of this project was to see if an unmotorised and unportered crossing of Papua New Guinea was possible, travelling from the north to the south of the island, at it’s widest point.
However, along the route we collected basic data on tribal groupings and the arrangements of languages in that particular region. Notes were also taken on the levels of development within the villages. The title of the fieldwork conducted was:
"The levels of development in villages and the effects of mining on remote communities of Papua New Guinea’s Sanduan and Western Provinces."
This report also details everything from the preparations to the conclusion of the expedition, and the fulfilment of the expedition aims:
I. Complete (what we believe to be) the first un-motorised crossing of New Guinea without the aid of porters
II. Record the expedition through photography and film
III. Collate data on the facilities and development of villages
IV. Raise funds for ChildFund’s inoculation patrol program
