EXPEDITION
AN UNMOTORISED CROSSING
2011: Crossing the Gobi Desert
In 2011 Richard and Patrick crossed the Gobi Desert, a journey of 1000km from Altai to Dalanzadgad, by Bactrian camel. Having never even seen a Bactrian Camel before, and speaking no Mongolian, it proved an irresistible challenge for the two to negotiate the purchase of three camels, learn to ride, manage and look after them as well as navigate themselves and their bemused Mongolian herdsman Utsil across the vast expanses of the Gobi.
The expedition didn't come without some trials and tribulation, most notably being that the small smelly herd of ageing and grumpy beast weakened as they slowly closed in on their goal. See the two part documentary for full details.
